1,1,1,3,3,3-Hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS) is used in the pharmaceutical industry as a key intermediate for manufacturing several Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), including Gemcitabine, Cefprozil, Cefadroxil, Sofosbuvir, Lamivudine, Acyclovir, Ampicillin, Azacitadine, Ganciclovir, Mecillinam, Tegafur, and Trifluridine.
HMDS is crucial for siloxane polymer production, where it reacts with moisture or acidic catalysts to create siloxane-based materials. These materials provide water resistance, durability, and adhesion in sealants. In lubricants, HMDS-derived silicone oils offer benefits such as low surface tension, thermal stability, and chemical inertness, making them suitable for high-performance applications.
