Trimethylchlorosilane (TMCS) is a colorless, volatile liquid with the formula (CH₃)₃SiCl, widely used as a silylating agent in organic synthesis and silicone production. It introduces trimethylsilyl (TMS) groups to protect hydroxyl, amino, and carboxyl groups, making molecules more volatile and less reactive. In the silicone industry, TMCS serves as a precursor for silicone oils, sealants, and resins by capping silanol groups to enhance stability.
